The sad answer is that the hardcovers don't bring in enough money to justify the cost (I think there are things that could be done to lower said costs, but since Dave isn't a "hardcover guy", it's a moot point...) Softcovers are losers too since Diamond is out of business, and them buying a significant chunk of the print run is the only way to finance the 17 to 20 grand printing bill.
