Chapter 26 puts the whole party on the Pacific Railroad - the transcontinental line that was, at the time this book was written, one of the genuine wonders of the modern world, and Verne treats it as such. Then Chapter 27 gives Passepartout a captive audience situation he did not ask for and cannot escape, courtesy of a very enthusiastic Mormon gentleman with a lot of history to cover and a long stretch of track to cover it on.
