About this episode

This episode recounts a dramatic Christmas night in 1974 for police officers in upstate NY, highlighting both tragedy and joy as they respond to multiple emergencies.

For a few police officers in upstate NY, Christmas 1974 is indelibly etched in their memories. The blustery winter night began with a state trooper colleague being critically injured by a drunk driver, ironically, while he was investigating a separate drunk driving crash. Then officers respond to another crash that claimed the lives of a family, the victims trapped within the fiery wreck. Some of those officers are diverted to an urgent maternity call, arriving to find a woman ready to give birth - but no ambulances are available. In this special “Behind the Badge” episode of APB Cold Case, former Fulton PD officers Lt./Retired Larry Mullen and Capt./Retired Arlen Cline share their memories of a dramatic night and how they maneuvered from the horror of one of the worst tragedies of their careers to the joy of delivering twin babies into the world.
