Marvin Heemeyer: Architect of the "Killdozer" 16 Jan 2024 --- On the morning of June 4th, 2004, Granby, Colorado was no different from hundreds of other small towns all across the United States. It was the kind of idyllic little mountain town you moved to in order to get away from the crime and chaos of big cities like neighboring Denver. By by the end of the day on June 4th, Granby looked like it had been through a warzone, with buildings destroyed, trees ripped up, streetlights and fire hydrants knocked down. You might be forgiven for thinking the cause of this municipal carnage was some sort of natural disaster, but the truth was so much more bizarre: a bulldozer, modified with armor plating to make it impervious to gunfire, had spent the afternoon driving around deliberately smashing into things. The man at the controls of the machine nicknamed the “Killdozer” was well known to the townspeople of Granby. Marvin Heemeyer was one of their neighbors, a local business owner who had a lot of friends but was also infamous for his well publicized disputes with the local town government.
