In late 2025, after President Donald Trump pushed Republicans in Texas to change their maps so he could rig the 2026 midterm elections, Democrats reacted and pushed back hard. Trump pushed Republicans to conduct a rare redistricting round as Republicans slowly figured out how unpopular their politics are to voters. In Virginia, the maps to be voted on in November will be decided on by the voters on April 21 by way of a referendum vote. Voters may choose to move Virginia’s congressional delegation to what would likely be an overwhelmingly Democratic majority of ten Democrats and only one Republican — or keep the maps the same as they are now. The MAGA right is now moving fast to flood the box with misinformation on redistricting and gerrymandering.
