About this episode

This episode explores the contrast between the eleven-day journey and the miraculous three-day journey, emphasizing the importance of joy and faith in the spiritual journey of Am Yisrael.

This class is based on Likutey Moharan Lesson 24: In Parshat Devarim, Moshe Rabbeinu contrasts the ordinary eleven-day journey from Har Sinai to Kadesh Barnea with the miraculous three-day journey Hashem gave Am Yisrael. The eleven days hint to the eleven fragrances of the Ketoret, which enter the Heichal HaTemurot (Chamber of Exchanges) to extract holiness trapped within impurity. The three days represent Chochmah, Binah and Da’at—wisdom, understanding and knowledge—which are awakened through simcha (joy), allowing redemption to come through a faster and higher path. Yet when Am Yisrael reached the test at Kadesh Barnea, they failed to internalize Hashem’s joy and lost their emunah (faith), turning three days into forty years. During the Three Weeks, when these faculties are weakened, the lesson is to rebuild them through simcha, brokenheartedness without despair and the discovery of our good points, transforming the ashes of mourning into the glory of redemption.
