This episode discusses the compassion of Jesus as the true shepherd who seeks to rescue and nourish his followers.
The hope of the gospel is not that we'd find our own way out of being harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Instead, God says, "I myself will seek my sheep" — and in Jesus the true shepherd comes with compassion that acts: to rescue, to gather, and to feed us with himself.
