It seems that now, possibly more than ever, the world is pressing hard for us all to believe that truth is always subjective. The appeal, at least in part, is that if I personally believe something to be true and can get more people to agree with me than you can, then I get what I want because “my truth" is greater than "your truth". Now, to be fair, there are likely some things that hold true for my family that other families don't hold to. For example, it's true that everyone at our house has to eat their vegetables if they want any chance at some kind of dessert…. HOWEVER... that doesn't seem to be a truth held at a grandparent's household. In this way, one could argue that some truths aren't to be held so tightly. However, as we get into the books of 2 and 3 John, we're asking what it is to hold to divine truth, truths sourced in the very nature and authority of Jesus Himself, and what it looks like to hold to these truths.
