As our special double-reflection week continues, Tony leads us through 1 Thessalonians 4:1–12 and Paul’s teaching on “living to please God.” He begins with an honest question: why does Paul urge the Thessalonians to live to please God and love one another more and more when, on the surface, they already seem to be doing well? From there, Tony explores Paul’s sober warnings about sexual immorality, the pull of a culture with low moral standards, and the subtle ways God’s people can begin to drift when temptation is left unchecked. He also highlights Paul’s concern about idleness, dependence on handouts, and looking down on manual labour, and shows how these attitudes can divide communities and damage our witness. Rather than offering a checklist, this reflection points us back to sanctification – being made holy as the Spirit conforms us to the image of Jesus – and to a life that quietly earns the respect of those outside the church. Listen in to be both encouraged and challenged to keep growing in love, discipline, and daily obedience, even when “everything in the garden seems rosy.”
