About this episode

The episode discusses the biblical story of Abraham and the ram, drawing parallels to Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice.

Today I saw a picture of a ram with huge horns standing on top of a mountain. An account of such a ram is described in the Old Testament, whereby it had got entangled in a thorny bush up on the top of a mountain. Abraham recognised it as a gift from God and sacrificed it back to God, who had originally instructed Abraham to sacrifice His own son Isaac (who went on to have son Jacob; he was the one who wrestled with God who then renamed him Israel). God had been testing Abraham's obedience to Him and Abraham had indeed been willing to offer his son as a burnt sacrifice on an altar he had prepared up on that mountain. God's sacrificial law was that a perfect life had to be devoted to God in a physical act of death and sacrifice in order to save a sinful one who otherwise would be separated from God eternally. The poor dumb animals which were selected for the acts of sacrifice had no choice. Who would choose to die to save another? Jesus did. That is why on two occasions John the Baptist declared Jesus as the Lamb of God (see John 1:28,36). He knew that Jesus chose to lead a perfect life, to ultimately be everyone's sacrifice. No man could or can do that. God provided Jesus for us…
