Sermon Notes: The Doctrine of God's Love Rev. Dr. Ebenezer Okronipa Main Scripture: 1 John 4:7-8, 1 Corinthians 12-14, Ephesians 4-5. I. The Essence of God is Love Divine Identity: God does not just "have" love; He is love. The New Birth Connection: Being "born of God" is inherently linked to love; knowing God is measured by your capacity to love. The Measuring Rod of Maturity: Spiritual growth isn't defined by the intensity of your faith or the frequency of your visions, but by your conduct in love. II. Love vs. Spiritual Gifts The Futility of Giftings Without Love: One can speak in tongues, prophesy, and understand mysteries, but without love, they are "nothing". Sacrifice (giving to the poor or giving one's body to be burned) profits nothing if not motivated by love. The More Excellent Way: Love is the primary "spiritual endowment" that should be eagerly pursued above all other gifts. III. Love in the Body of Christ The Five-Fold Ministry's Goal: Apostles, prophets, and teachers are given to equip the saints to "speak the truth in love," leading to a "perfect man" modeled after Christ.
