Zakat - A Pillar of Islam خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِم بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ صَلَوٰتَكَ سَكَنٌ لَّهُمْ وَٱللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ Tawba 9:103 Take from their wealth ˹O Prophet˺ charity to purify and bless them, and pray for them—surely your prayer is a source of comfort for them. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. Zakat is obligatory for every sane, adult Muslim who possesses wealth above a specific threshold (Nisab) for one lunar year (Hawl). The wealth must be fully owned, productive or capable of growth, and free from debt. The standard payment is 2.5% of total eligible assets, including cash, gold, silver, and business inventory. Key Conditions of Zakat Obligations Muslim: The individual must be a Muslim. Nisab (Minimum Threshold): Wealth must exceed the Nisab, which is commonly equivalent to the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. Hawl (One Lunar Year): The owner must possess the wealth for a complete lunar year (approx. 354 days). Full Ownership: The assets must be fully owned and under the control of the owner.
