Hope Hooton’s children, 7yo Alec Mater and 6yo Lydia Mater, were shot and killed on May 19, 2024 by their father, 34-year-old Brock Mater during an unsupervised custody visit. Hope introduced and advocates for The “Alec and Lydia Act” (HB 2995) a 2026 Arizona legislative proposal aimed at reforming family court to prioritize child safety over equal parenting time.
