About this episode

The episode discusses the political mood among Malaysian youth and the rise of right-wing politics with guest Arveent Kathirtchelvan.

As “Gen Z” youth revolts rock many countries in Asia, Green Left’s Peter Boyle spoke to Arveent Kathirtchelvan, a youth activist in the Socialist Party of Malaysia (Parti Sosialis Malaysia, PSM) about the political mood among young people in Malaysia and how right-wing politicians are channeling rising mass dissatisfaction into racist scapegoating of minorities. Kathirtchelvan also spoke about the significance of the PSM’s electoral pact with Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), a youth-centred party.
