About this episode
The episode discusses the controversy surrounding the unfulfilled promises of Trump smartphones and the implications for supporters who made deposits.
Last summer Donald Trump, Eric Trump, and Donald Trump Jr. announced $500 gold Trump smartphones, promising they would be manufactured in the United States. Over 600,000 Trump supporters put down $100 non-refundable deposits, handing the Trump family nearly $60 million. The phones are not being made. Nobody is getting a refund. The disclaimer language buried in the fine print made clear the deposits formed no contractual obligation and did not guarantee the phones would ever be manufactured at all.
