About this episode
This episode explores the rise of remigration policies and their implications on ethnic bias and asylum protections in Europe and North America.
Remigration, the policy of deporting individuals based on their assessed right to live in a country, is increasingly being framed in the rhetoric of populist parties in Europe and North America. For some, it can be taken as a code word for targeting people based on ethnicity who aren’t seen by those detaining and deporting them as fitting their view of what is to be a fellow citizen based on race or appearance. A number of those who maintain this view subscribe to the “Great Replacement” theory, that suggests white populations in some populations are being deliberately targeted by immigration aimed at replacing them. Calls for remigration are increasingly being heard in the public space, while much of what is happening behind closed doors, some potentially influenced or funded by governments, remains unknown beyond occasional reports that hint at policies that come close to crossing the line of “normal” migration controls. In this episode, we take a look at this disturbing possibility, as always turning to see where our prayers and intentions may be needed. Suggested Intention Focus for this week This week, as we reflect on the disturbing rise in support for remigration in the US…
