About this episode

Dr. Janelle Goodwill discusses her research on hope and its role in suicide prevention for young Black students on Chicago's South Side.

InterVarsity alumna Dr. Janelle Goodwill is committed to hope; not just as a virtue, but as a fundamental component of human thriving. In her research at the University of Chicago, Dr. Goodwill is pursuing a deeper understanding of hope, joy, and meaning and their impact on suicide prevention. In particular, she is piloting interventions in local schools to educate and support young Black students and their parents who might otherwise be at greater risk for suicide. Whether it's at the university, in a local middle school, or with her own church family on Chicago's South Side, Dr. Janelle Goodwill is hard at work changing the world with Jesus.
