The word “Varuthini” can be translated as “that which gives protection” or “one who safeguards.” It is believed that observing a fast and offering worship on this day grants a person protection from evil, spiritual growth, removal of negative karma, and the blessings of Lord Vishnu. This Ekadashi is especially revered for its power to remove misfortune, illness, and fear, and to bestow success and prosperity. 📖 According to the Padma Purana, when King Mandata observed the fast of Varuthini Ekadashi, he was freed from all sins and attained Vaikuntha—the abode of Vishnu. It is also said in the scriptures that even those who simply hear about the glories of Varuthini Ekadashi gain merit equal to performing great sacrifices. On the day of Varuthini Ekadashi, it is recommended to observe a fast—ideally abstaining completely from food and water, or following a lighter fast that includes only water, fruits, and nuts.
