Greg Obis from Stuck is here to discuss their new album Optimizer , following Bob Weston in operating Chicago Mastering Service , his background in audio engineering and an internship he had at Electrical Audio , how Michael Azerrad’s Our Band Could Be Your Life helped him re-assess punk rock, explaining what mixing and mastering is via a cooking analogy, where Stuck comes from, recording Optimizer at Electrical Audio and making use of a 16-string guitar model that Steve Albini had had built for Lee Ranaldo, the Miku Stomp guitar pedal and sound design, pondering big changes and political possibilities, a nod to Big Black, internet frustrations, admiring Liz Pelly, and joining Subvert, shows Stuck played in Edmonton in Calgary this past May (one of which I saw), future plans, and much more.
