Bishop Caggiano discusses the excommunication of the Society of St Pius X and its implications for clergy and laypeople.
On July 1st, Pope Leo XIV and the DDF declared the Society of St Pius X to be excommunicated. This obviously has massive repercussions for the clergy of that order, but also for thousands of lay people who have been attending SSPX liturgies. Bishop Caggiano has written that "my heart goes out to them at this painful moment, and I want them to know that they remain very much a part of our diocesan family". On this episode of Let Me Be Frank, he invites those who have been involved with the SSPX back in to the heart of the Church. He also talks about: What is schism? What's the difference between an invalid and an illicit sacrament? Who are the SSPX and what is their history? Here in the DIocese of Bridgeport, we have St Mary's in Norwalk and Sts Cyril & Methodius for everyone who loves vetus ordo. You can find similar parishes in nearly every diocese.
