But when their scheduled check-ins suddenly stopped, family members knew something was wrong. Within days, a massive search effort was underway, bringing in helicopters, search dogs, drones, horseback teams, and hundreds of volunteers to comb through miles of steep mountains, dense timber, and storm-battered terrain. For nearly a week, rescuers searched for answers. The weather worsened, clues remained scarce, and the mystery only deepened. What began as a missing persons case soon drew national attention, leaving many to wonder how two capable hunters could seemingly vanish so close to their vehicle.
