About this episode

Sully discusses the Detroit Tigers' struggles with Kenley Jansen and highlights Tarek Skubal's strong performance amidst the American League playoff race.

American League playoff race wide open as Kenley Jansen’s late-inning woes haunt Detroit Tigers—could a closer change alter their postseason fate? Sully spotlights the Tigers’ bullpen struggles, Tarek Skubal’s ace-level outing, and Kyle Finnegan’s emergence, while questioning why Detroit sticks with Jansen despite costly blown saves as the AL Central remains up for grabs. Key discussions include the staggering reality that only the New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and Sacramento A’s currently sit above .500 in the American League. How will contenders like the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Guardians, and underperforming Houston Astros adjust with the window for easy fixes closing quickly? Plus, Sully examines why now is the time for teams to plug roster holes from within, the rise of unexpected contributors, and which small moves could mean playoff berths in an unusually stagnant AL.
