One of the most vulnerable things we can do is place our trust in someone or commit ourselves to something. Whenever we are faced with commitment, questions and fears often begin to swirl in our minds. What if they let me down? What if it isn't enough? What if things don't turn out the way I hoped? Commitment can feel risky because it requires us to release control and entrust ourselves to someone or something beyond ourselves. Every one of us wrestles with commitment in some way. Rather than fully committing, we often try to keep one foot in and one foot out. We convince ourselves that this gives us a sense of security—that if things go wrong, we can simply say, "I knew it wouldn't work." Yet this kind of divided allegiance only keeps us from experiencing the fullness of what God desires for us. Jesus calls us to wholehearted trust, and the longer we try to live in the middle ground, the more our hearts drift away from Him. As we continue our journey through Psalm 119, we will see the psalmist repeatedly place his confidence in God's Word.
