Tristan Fidler and Simon Miraudo review four new films, including The Bride and The Plague, while discussing their cinematic experiences.
Tristan Fidler and Simon Miraudo make a triumphant return to Movie Squad with not one, not two, not three, not five, but four new reviews. During their on-air segment with Pam Boland on Breakfast, Tristan reviews Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ambitious “stew” of a monster movie, The Bride!, starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale. Then, Simon covers The Plague, about the psychological nightmare of being a 12-year-old at water polo camp, featuring Joel Edgerton as the kindly coach who can’t save the new kid from becoming the next pariah. Both films are now showing in select cinemas. Stay tuned for Simon’s pod-exclusive review of GOAT, an animated sports film produced by Steph Curry about a small goat who strives to become the best roarball player of all time. It’s also now in cinemas. Then, Tristan reviews Lucile Hadžihalilović’s drama The Ice Tower, featuring Marion Cotillard as a magnetic movie star with a dark secret. It’s playing as part of the Alliance Française French Film Festival. See the full program here!
