The all-seeing eye appears on churches, Masonic emblems, political seals, banknotes, film posters, album art, surveillance graphics, and conspiracy diagrams. This episode follows the symbol from ancient Egyptian protective eyes to Christian images of divine watchfulness, then to the Great Seal of the United States, Freemasonry, Illuminati mythology, and modern fears of surveillance. The Eye of Horus and Eye of Ra carried meanings of protection, restoration, kingship, solar force, and divine order, but they were not the same as the later Christian Eye of Providence. In Renaissance and early modern Europe, a radiant eye often represented God’s knowledge and care; when placed in a triangle, it could refer to the Trinity. In seventeen eighty-two, the United States adopted a Great Seal whose reverse showed an unfinished pyramid beneath a radiant eye, invoking providential favor over a new republic.
