Instead of reducing friction uniformly, it increases the coefficient of friction under compressive load , so as makeup stress rises, resistance rises with it. The result: shoulder faces seat cleanly, standoff is eliminated, and connections hold torque where it belongs. Friction factor is 1.15 relative to API RP 5A3 Annex I , developed on full-scale API tool joint connections.
