NEW YORK CITY Mayor Zohran Mamdani is the smiling face of communism. But it’s a mask. Most American political commentators focus on his economic policies, but it’s his religion that’s the real threat. While young voters, who have legitimate economic grievances, are mesmerized by his personal charm and the promise of free health care, education, and government services, Muslim voters are growing in number and political clout. This strange marriage of Muslims and Marxists is the same one that led to the downfall of the shah of Iran in 1979. What the Marxist intelligentsia seems not to have learned from history is that Iranian academics and progressives were the first against the wall once the Islamists took power.
