On Christmas Day 1872, the body of 31-year-old Harriet Buswell was discovered in a Bloomsbury lodging house, her throat brutally cut inside a locked room. As detectives reconstructed her final hours, conflicting witness statements and rumours of a mysterious ‘German gentleman’ sent the investigation spiralling in the wrong direction.
