We hear this from gay men all the time, usually those in their 50s or pushing their 60s: “I want to retire now, but I have absolutely nothing saved.” And when we ask what happened, the answer usually isn’t laziness. It isn’t that they didn’t care. It often comes down to three quiet beliefs many gay men inherited from culture, trauma, fantasy, and avoidance.
