Inspired by childhood memories of her mother playing Brown’s “The Snake,” Weekes has spent nearly five decades cultivating a deep love for his music—and now she’s honoring him with 12 of his compositions, some newly recorded, others reimagined. Collaborating with top-tier musicians like Mark Cargill, Paul Jackson, Jr., Scotty Barnhart, and Adam “Aejaye” Jackson, Weekes brings Brown’s timeless lyrics to life, exploring themes of love, social justice, and personal history—including a touching nod to her Harlem roots with “Hazel’s Hips.” Having once performed with Brown himself, Weekes sees this album as both a personal dream fulfilled and a vital bridge between generations. The project will be available on all streaming platforms and CD, with a special live performance at the Catalina Jazz Club in LA on August 6, 2026.
