In this episode I'm joined by author Eve J. Chung to discuss her latest book The Young Will Remember , a historical fiction novel set during the Korean War. We discuss her book, different historical narratives and memories of the Korean War, complex questions of identity on the Korean Peninsula, how the war affected Asian Americans back in the United States, imperialism and strategic bombing, the sexual abuse of women by the Japanese military during World War II as well as it's legacy and impact, women's experience of the Korean War, the psychology of ordinary people during the war, and much more. Eve J. Chung is a Taiwanese American lawyer and women's human rights specialist. She has worked on a range of issues, including torture, sexual violence, contemporary forms of slavery, and discriminatory legislation. Her writing is inspired by social justice movements, and the continued struggle for equality and fundamental freedoms worldwide. She currently lives in New York with her husband, two children, and two dogs. Eve was also on the podcast a few years ago to discuss her first book, Daughters of Shandong .
