Dependence Day | John 15:1–17 As we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, this message reminds us of an even greater freedom—the freedom found only in Jesus Christ. While our nation values independence, the Christian life is built on something entirely different: complete dependence on God. Drawing from Jesus' words in John 15, we are reminded that Christ is the True Vine , the Father is the Vinedresser , and we are the branches called to abide in Him. Just as a branch cannot survive or produce fruit apart from the vine, we cannot experience the life God designed for us apart from a daily, moment-by-moment dependence on Jesus. This sermon explores the beautiful contrast between worldly self-sufficiency and biblical dependence. Our culture celebrates independence, self-reliance, and the idea that we can make it on our own. Scripture tells a different story. Every breath we take is a gift from God, and apart from Christ, our efforts ultimately amount to nothing of eternal value.
