The mystery deepens. By the fall of 1975, reports of unidentified helicopters were exploding across Colorado. Deputies chased helicopters through Pueblo County. Ranchers watched unmarked aircraft hover over cattle at night. Bright searchlights swept across remote ranches in Alamosa, Costilla, Baca, Las Animas, Weld, Washington, and El Paso Counties. Witnesses described helicopters without markings, aircraft flying without lights, impossible maneuvers, and strange machines that appeared and disappeared into the darkness. The reports coincided with one of the largest waves of cattle mutilations ever documented in the American West.
