Tonight on Sleepy Time Tales , we continue our slow, gentle journey through Louisa May Alcott's Little Women —and as always, nothing too exciting will happen. Mr. March has finally returned home after his long absence, and the household settles back into its quiet rhythm. He and Beth are both recovering from their illnesses, which mostly involves a great deal of resting, sitting quietly by the fire, and eating nourishing food. There is very little dialogue and even less action. Meanwhile, Meg finds herself the subject of some mild attention from Mr. Brooke—though it's all very proper, very subdued, and handled with the kind of polite awkwardness that is far more tedious than thrilling. The family discusses it in hushed, measured tones, and eventually everyone agrees that things are working out quite nicely, thank you very much. The chapter winds down with the March family gathered together, content and safe, as the fire crackles softly in the hearth. It is, in short, a perfectly pleasant and deeply unremarkable ending to a long day.
