David Director Friedman was born in February 1945, in the United States, to Rose Director and Milton Friedman. He completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard University in 1965 with high honors. Then, he obtained a master's degree in 1967 and a PhD in 1971 in theoretical physics from the University of Chicago.
