This episode explores the themes of intercession and justice through the biblical account of Abraham and God's conversation about Sodom.

Justice and mercy can feel like they pull in opposite directions, but Genesis 18 shows us a God who holds both together without contradiction. When God visits Abraham on His way to Sodom, nothing about that visit is accidental. He shares a meal, reaffirms His promise, and draws Abraham into a conversation about what He is about to do. Abraham never argues that Sodom is innocent. He knows better. Instead, he intercedes for any righteous people who might be there, and in doing so, he models what it looks like to bring our deepest concerns before God in honest conversation. Scripture is clear that every person falls short of God's standard, and that shortfall is not a minor infraction. Replacing God with yourself as the center of your life is, at its core, treason against the rightful King of everything. But the same passage in Romans that declares everyone guilty also declares that justification is available as a gift through Christ. Jesus is described as the propitiation, the mercy seat, the place where the sacrifice is made. He absorbed the penalty so that God could be both just and the justifier of those who trust in Him.
