The episode discusses the themes of spiritual blindness and enlightenment through the story of Jesus healing a blind man.

Today’s gospel is about Jesus healing a blind man on the sabbath. Jesus is light of the world, those who follow have light, sight, enlightenment and faith, those who reject Jesus are in darkness, they cannot see and are blind. The irony of today’s gospel—it is the blind man who sees, who comes to faith in Christ, while those who claim to see are rejecting Christ are ultimately blind. We see that in the 1st reading as well where God tells Samuel that he has chosen a king, not the eldest, but David, the youngest, who doesn’t look the part of a king. God does not see as man sees and that’s the redemption of God that comes to us through Christ. That those without sight may see and those with sight turn blind. Jesus is helping us see others in the way God’s sees them. Those who are suffering are not being punished but they manifest God’s greatness and mercy. We can think of lent as a time of suffering, in reality we have to see it as a blessed time - putting aside distractions, being attentive to God’s presence in our lives, to experience his healing, compassion and salvation, the same compassion and healing Jesus did for the blind man.
