About this episode
Nicole shares her experience with medical misogyny and struggles with infertility after being misdiagnosed with weight gain instead of a large tumor.
Nicole was 21 years old and had an alien growing inside her chest. Well, no, not really. But it WAS an extremely large tumor growing inside of her that very much FELT like an alien — an alien that doctors had told her multiple times was just weight gain. After dismissal time after time again, Nicole finally meets a surgeon who tells her that she has a massive cyst on her fallopian tube that was 32 centimeters wide. This isn’t just a story about the pain of medical misogyny (although, hey, if you needed more proof women are never taken as seriously as they should be in healthcare, here’s more for you!) – it’s also a story about the pain of what could have been.
