Julie K. Allen, professor of Comparative Arts and Letters at Brigham Young University, is the author of Screening Europe in Australasia . So it makes sense that her selections, each from a different country, would embody the transnational dynamic of silent film just before the outbreak of World War I. Julie is also the author of Icons of Danish Modernity , Danish but Not Lutheran , and The Silent Muse: The Memoirs of Asta Nielsen . She is currently working on a book about the Danish cinema license system with the tentative title The Cultural Politics of Film Exhibition.
