About this episode

The episode discusses the scandal involving Shohei Ohtani's former interpreter, Ippéi Mizuhara, and the implications of a gambling operation linked to him.

Brian Beckner is joined by Reality Steve and Jason Stewart for a special crossover episode dissecting the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast The Betrayal of Shohei Ohtani and the bizarre scandal surrounding Ohtani's former interpreter, Ippéi Mizuhara. The guys break down the $17 million theft, Mizuhara's massive gambling operation, Shohei's astonishing lack of financial awareness, the unanswered questions surrounding the investigation, and whether the podcast finally proves Ohtani knew nothing about the gambling. They also debate Mizuhara's original story, the FBI investigation, bookmaker Mathew Boyer, the shocking sentencing disparity, Ohtani's relationship with his interpreter, and what might have happened if federal investigators had never uncovered the scheme. Plus: Shohei's legendary ability to compartmentalize, the Dodgers' 2024 season, international baseball, NFL games overseas, Reality Steve's NFL Survivor Pool, and a very important RealitySteve connection to Diamond Bar and Keith Van Horn.
