About this episode
Colin Connor and Eric van Evans discuss misconceptions in theology, the importance of epistemic humility, and critiques of American Christianity.
When teenage Colin was spending every weekend playing inline hockey, there’s no way he could’ve known a conversation like this with an old teammate was somewhere down the road. More than a decade later, we may not be quite as sharp on the rink as we used to be, but apparently we still make a pretty solid team, just this time behind a mic. Longtime friend, local college prof, and prolific philosophy/theology blogger Eric Evans joins us this week for a conversation that covers a little something for everyone. We talk about some of the biggest misconceptions college students bring into theology, why epistemic humility matters now more than ever, and how Eric arrives at belief in God without a sacred text or religious institution. We also dive into what American Christianity and capitalism have gotten deeply wrong about the way of Jesus, why many of us may have been looking at prayer all wrong, and how to recover a sense of wonder in a post-postmodern world. What started as a reunion ends up being a really fun, nerdy conversation we hope you enjoy listening in on!
