Fox released a new Bible drama this year called The Faithful: Women of the Bible, retelling the stories of Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel from their perspectives. If that sounds intriguing, don't get your hopes up. Unsurprisingly, this version of female empowerment very quickly became a show about blaming the women for every bad decision the biblical patriarchs make. This week, we're reviewing The Faithful episode by episode and talking about everything from questionable Bible interpretations and ancient Near Eastern anachronisms to hilariously bad wigs, bizarre plot twists, fake wolves, ancient pregnancy tests, and a ram subplot so ridiculous we laughed for five minutes straight. Was it historically accurate? Eh, sometimes. Was it theologically sound? Not really. Was it unintentionally hilarious? Also no. At least, not enough to redeem the six hours we lost to it. But since we watched it so you don't have to, it's your turn to join us now as we break down what The Faithful gets right, what it gets wrong, and why a show trying to celebrate the matriarchs of Genesis may have accidentally turned them into the villains of their own stories.
