Cats vs Dogs... but for Photographers - The Random Photography Show

Cats vs Dogs... but for Photographers - The Random Photography Show

August 17, 2026 · 2h 3m · Episode 209

About this episode

The episode discusses the differences in photographing cats and dogs, exploring the preferences of photographers for each type of subject.

Cats or dogs. It's the oldest argument going, but tonight we're actually settling it as photographers. Greg's a cat person. Justin's a dog person. And it turns out the two animals are completely different to shoot. Dogs give you everything, eye contact, expression, they'll hold a look and they actually want to please the camera. Cats give you nothing on purpose. You have to wait and steal the moment when it happens, a bit like street photography with claws. So the real question underneath all the tribal stuff is this. Do you prefer a subject that performs for you, or one you have to catch? We go back and forth on it, drag in some real pet shoot footage, and let the live chat pick a side.
