Thursday, June 4th: In Episode 784 of The Daily Grind, we continue The Gospel According to Ezekiel with Part 24, “Pharaoh the Great Monster,” from Ezekiel 29. Ezekiel turns his attention to Egypt, one of the oldest and most powerful civilizations of the ancient world. God compares Pharaoh to a great monster lounging in the Nile River, proudly claiming ownership of the very blessings God had provided. Through this vivid image, Ezekiel exposes the dangers of pride, self-sufficiency, and misplaced trust. The chapter also reveals how Judah repeatedly looked to Egypt for rescue instead of relying on God. God describes Egypt as a broken reed, something that appears strong but fails when people lean upon it. Ezekiel reminds us that wealth, power, politics, and human institutions make poor saviors because they cannot bear the weight of ultimate trust. Egypt's coming humiliation demonstrates that every earthly empire is temporary. Christians ultimately see the answer to this problem in Jesus Christ, the only foundation strong enough to support our lives completely.
