The episode explores the radical implications of Revelation 21 and the concept of the New Jerusalem as a restoration of creation rather than an evacuation from it.

After twenty chapters of plagues, beasts, burning cities, and one very full lake of fire, we have finally arrived at the payoff: Revelation 21, the New Jerusalem. God wipes away every tear, there's no more death or pain, and the holy city descends from heaven to earth — not the other way around. That directional detail turns out to change everything about what John is actually saying. We dig into why this chapter is far more radical than the clouds-and-harps version of heaven most of us inherited. The New Jerusalem coming down to earth is restoration theology, not evacuation theology — God isn't rescuing souls and torching the planet, God is renewing all of creation. The city is shaped like a cube (roughly Boston to Oklahoma City on each side), which John's audience would have recognized immediately as the shape of the Holy of Holies: the whole city is sacred space, the whole renewed earth is where God dwells. The gates are never shut. The water of life is offered freely to anyone who's thirsty.
