I explain how exhausting it can be to work overnight, get kids ready for school in the morning, sleep during the day, and still try to be emotionally present for my foster children and wife. I share how appointments, therapy sessions, school activities, house maintenance, and constant interruptions make consistent sleep almost impossible, and how that sleep deprivation starts affecting everything from mood and patience to memory and burnout. I also discuss why I continue working third shift, how a more understanding employer has helped tremendously, and some of the strategies I’ve started using—such as scheduling my days, limiting social media, exercising more, and protecting my sleep—to help create more structure and balance in my life.
