This is part 1 of a 3 episode series. In this episode, I'm talking about something I've noticed more and more over the years working with women in midlife and something I personally experienced. A lot of women around my age had hysterectomies in their late 30s or early 40s. And while many of those surgeries genuinely improved quality of life - mine included - I've come to realize something else may have happened too: Many of us lost one of the body's biggest communication systems before we ever fully entered menopause. Without changing cycles, irregular periods, or the usual visible "warning signs," many women moved into perimenopause and menopause without fully understanding what was happening inside their bodies. And because of that, a lot of women spent years interpreting body changes through the lens of discipline, control, stress, or personal failure… Instead of recognizing they were navigating a major physiological transition. This episode is not anti-hysterectomy. It's a deeper conversation about body awareness, midlife change, self-blame, and what happens when women lose familiarity with the signals their bodies once used to communicate.
