This medieval fortified house and bishop's palace is most famous for its association with Queen Katherine of Aragon, Henry VIII’s first wife. After Katherine refused to accept the annulment of her marriage and the title of Dowager Princess of Wales, she was moved between several residences. In July 1533, she was brought to Buckden Towers where she remained in self-imposed isolation. Although much of the complex has changed over time, key Tudor-era features survive, including The Great Tower (or Inner Gatehouse).
