This week on The Weekend Golf Guys, John, Jeff, and our buddy Tom Stickney dove into the one thing golfers lose faster than golf balls: a positive mindset. Tom kicked things off with a reality check. He says golfers get mad because they expect way too much from themselves. (Shocking, we know.) He compared it to scuba diving — nobody jumps in the ocean expecting to break a world record. You’re just down there looking at fish and trying not to drown. Golf should feel the same way: enjoy the ride, stop keeping score in your head before you even swing. Jeff followed up with one of his favorite Jedi‑mind‑trick teaching moves: he takes the golf ball away. Poof. Gone. Students panic for a second, then suddenly start swinging like actual athletes instead of robots trying to impress TrackMan. No ball means no pressure, no target, no “I hope I don’t embarrass myself.” Just balance, setup, and motion — the stuff that actually matters. And of course, we had to talk about how golf instruction can get way too technical. Beginners don’t need a dissertation on wrist flexion at P3.
