About this episode

This episode covers the abduction of a mother and her child from a Dollar General in Louisiana and the subsequent prosecution of Charles A. Smith.

On a January afternoon in 2015, a mother walked into a Dollar General on Highway 16 in Livingston Parish, Louisiana with her two-year-old child. She never made it home. Charles A. Smith, 28, of Denham Springs, was already wanted for SA in neighboring Tangipahoa Parish when he took the woman and her toddler at gunpoint from the parking lot. He forced them into a stolen white Chrysler PT Cruiser and drove them north across parish lines—through Livingston, into St. Helena, and on toward Tangipahoa. Along that stretch of Highway 16, the kidnapping became something far worse.
